Fable 2.5

Fable 2.5

Let’s admit it, there were a lot of features shown to us for Fable II, but some of those feature weren’t included when the game was released last November. But now with some details officially released from LoinsHead at x10 conference, there could possible be some hope that FableIII3 will deliver what they’re preaching.

Now even though co-op was one of the features included in Fable II But the problem was that even though we could even invite a friend into your world, your friend could only play as a preset character, not their own created character and without able to collect experience, weapons, or loot any hope for having an enjoyable and “rewarding” co-op adventure was lost. The only way to really experience the game together was seeing your friends’ orbs floating, it was a great idea, but created the problem of having 35 Navi like characters running around the marketplaces yelling: “Hey!” or “Listen!”

So when Peter Molyneux explained the future of co-op in Fable III the 4Guys 1UP podcast, all of our problems and worries about the co-op in Fable III subsided. Molyneux stated: “I heard you all about co-op. You want to have your own hero come into the world. Okay, fine, you can have that definitely.” Molyneux also gave more details, when he admitted that the player’s dog and weapons would also be available in co-op. “When you come into my world, you come in as your hero, with your dog, with all your unique weapons, self-crafted weapons. I heard you — you don’t wanna be tied to my camera, you wanna go off and do your own thing in my world. Fine, fair enough.”

With that said, Molyneux added by warning player about “consequences.” Molyneux said: “It means careful who you invite in, ’cause they can screw the whole thing up, man! Yes you can use touch with your co-op partner. Yes you can walk down the street hand-in-hand. Yes you can drag your co-op partner to your dungeon and see what happens. Absolutely.”
I myself am still skeptical on the progress of Fable III, I feel like there were too many things getting promised to us for Fable II, from an advanced combat system, to an in depth way to interact with the people of Albeon. Instead we got a hack-n-slash combo fighting system, and a bunch of villagers that jeer or cheer.

Don’t get me wrong Fable II was a great game, but I feel that a lot of the features we were promised were not able to be completed in the time line they had for the release of Fable II, and that’s why when they originally announce at last years E3 that Fable III would be out this Holiday season, I wasn’t surprised. I’m hoping a lot of those abandoned features from Fable II have been completed and added to Fable III. Keep you eyes peeled for any more updates on Lion Head’s Love child.

Give it to me now…now….how bout now???

Give it to me now…now….how bout now???

Last time, Dax had a great point about how busy we are and staying focused. I want to expound a bit on that.

Baseball season has begun and so time has become more squeezed for me. But my busy schedule isn’t what I am going to rant about. Instead, I am going to complain about something that has reared it’s head in society and in video games: On Demand.

If I were to turn on my XBOX at this moment I could get any of a hundred games on demand, movies on demand, video chat on demand, chat on demand, music on demand and who knows what else on demand. We log on to our computers and expect to get information on demand and cell phones allow people to get a hold of people on demand.

That’s fine.

However, just because you can get all your needs and desires met online and in video games does not mean that you can expect real people to be the same way. I must give a story about this.

One night gaming recently, I recall that Brandon, aka Jonny Tango, was playing a video game, either Dragon Age or Mass Effect II, and I was a little annoyed that he had the nerve to NOT join Chris and my game. I sent numerous game invites and text messages until he finally joined. Looking back on that, I realize I was expecting HIM to join MY game on demand and frankly that is rude.

This past week I have dealt with a dozen people who have expected me to do something they want done for them, done by me on demand. That has really bothered me all week. So I want to apologize to Brandon for that behavior and remind everyone that behind the gamer tags are real people who have real life and they ARE NOT ON DEMAND.

Pandora, Pandora send sanity right over

Pandora, Pandora send sanity right over
Whenever I’m working on the comic, or writing news, or just surfing the net, I like to listen to Podcast, and Music. It sooth’s me, centers me if you will. And of course when I’m, home alone, I like to turn it up! But now thanks to Pandora, that has changed. Don’t get me wrong programs like Pandora, Last.FM, and other sites are a great idea. The premiss: Type in any Artist, Song, or Genre and they’ll play simpler music, sound simple right? Accept for Pandora, you see Pandora takes to a new level, if you like or hate the song you can choose the “Thumbs Up” or “Thumbs Down” button, and Pandora will either never play that song again, or will play similar music to what you like. The problem is sometimes the wires cross, and you may no get what you wanted. Here’s what I’m talking about for example a song comes on it it a Hip Hop song, that you like comes on, you you hit the “Thumbs Up” button, another song this time is a heavy beat fast paced song, another “Thumbs Up” then another song with some Chinese wind chimes in the back, and you think: “Ya know, this isn’t a bad song either.” Next thing you know someone walks into the room, and the next some pops up. Some Techno Japanese Boy Band is singing their heart out to you, and the person who walked in the room has the suspicions that the rumors are true….Jonny Tango is gay. See the problem is Pandora knows what they’re doing, it’s like a musical game of Mouse trap. The players have been made and of course the traps has been set. That one song sit dormant until you “The Player” chooses the right and wrong “Thumbs Up” and “Thumbs Down” and then like a Panther hunting their prey, Pandora strikes and puts you in one the most awkward positions ever as you try to find the Pandora window, to shut it down, the person witnessing what your doing, know has a preconceived notion to what you listen to, and the damage is done…

Game Rant: Out of Space

So I saw a story somewhere about the xbox 360 getting a 250 gb hard drive in Japan and I had to ask myself why Microsoft has to keep bending us over the barrel. I mean seriously, they push these demos at over 1gb each, a ton of games, movies, television shows and if you even buy a few of these items POOF! Your xbox hard drive is full. Add in the ability to save your game to the hard drive so you don’t have to hear that stupid disc drive spinning and you have a full hard drive with nothing you can do about it. You can’t hook up your external hard drive, a thumb drive — anything but microsoft products. So in our lament we watch as the 250 gb hard drive floats over to Japan and the EU cuts the 120 gb model price but what do we get … JACK!

Not that I am not used to getting bent over. The avatar marketplace, the only place to spend my odd number of microsoft points, doesn’t even have Notre Dame outfits. Shame on you Microsoft and you should be thankful there isn’t a viable alternative to you.

Game Rant: Time is of the Essence

Game Rant: Time is of the Essence

Now for those of you who are relatively new to the show, you might say that Chris, Brandon, Ross and I have been working together for quite some time.  I recently had a great conversation with one of my friends discussing the diversity of the personalities on Gamer-Scag Nation; [and I would have to agree] we can definitely discuss subjects at length from various viewpoints.  However, the truth is that both Chris & I are newly added hosts to this amazing podcast; having only been integrated in with existing hosts (Ross & Brandon) since December 2009.  This “melding of the minds” has brought its fair share of growing pains…   although we are all very excited about the direction the show has taken (along with where we want to see it go), we have spent a great deal of time working out the details on how GSN should flow.  This is most evident in the length of time the previous few shows have gone – and is the centerpiece of my Game Rant this week.

While promoting our show to the public and garnering more listeners, I have come across one consistent feedback request more than any other:  “Love the show; it’s just a little long”.  This is one of many issues that we have been working on since starting the show with 4 co-hosts.  We understand that your lives are busy, and that you may not have the time (or patience) to listen to another podcast attempting to break thru the muddled line of all other self-proclaimed gaming & entertainment focused podcasts out there.  For this reason (in my opinion), it is of utmost importance for us to condense our show down to approximately an hour – start to finish.

But therein lays the problem…

How can we compress the show down to a more approachable time limit without losing the venerable content that makes it worthwhile to listen to?  As mentioned earlier, our diverse opinions on subject matters – not to mention our different stages in life - are one of the defining (and most cherished) features of GSN, which listeners comment on and relate to.  Well…   we’ve kicked around many options on how to handle this issue, and believe we have finally been able to pool our thoughts into a solution which would satisfy the desires of our cast (as well as our listeners).  You will get to experience this solution starting with Show #26.  Our new format includes all of the zany commentary that you’ve come to know and love – nothing was cut out – but also keeps our run time in check.  So how were we able to do this AND keep it under 1 hr & 15 mins (a feat unachievable till now)?

The answer is simple:   we split the show into two parts.  This helps us not only keep a leash on our time limit, but it also allows us to have a new show posted weekly.  I believe this solution is part of the molding process which comes from defining what we want our podcast to be.  Is it a step in the right direction?  Do you like the new format for our show?  Or do you have some ideas you would like to voice on how we could improve even more?  Listen to this week’s episode and place your comments below, hit us up on Facebook, or leave us a voice message by calling the phone number listed (see sidebar on right).  You never know, we may even read / air your comment if we think it’s worthwhile.  Thanks for all the feedback!  Cheers

SHOW NOTES

Game Rant: Pre-Teen Parker

Game Rant: Pre-Teen Parker
Tuesday we found out that Columbia Pictures has pulled the plug on “Spider Man 4″ and will instead make a younger, cheaper installment of the superhero franchise. Star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi, will no longer be involved in the franchise as Columbia moves forward with a high school-aged Peter Parker, which will be coming out in summer 2012.
Now at first my thought was: “Dammit! Ross was right!” If you had listen to a couple of our past shows Ross and I got in a couple heated argument when Disney bought Marvel last Fall. And the big issue that we talked about was the Disney would be creating younger, cheaper, and cheesier franchise for our favorite super heroes.
But after doing some research I found that Disney and Marvel aren’t the ones to blame. So hold on to your seat folks it’s gonna be a bumpy ride… the reason behind the already failed movie with some low budget punk of an actor that’s only other acting career was probably in some juice commercial is in production is that Columbia needs to continue actively developing “Spider Man” films or else the property will revert back to Disney and Marvel. The new untitled Spider Man film will center on the web-slinging mother fucker as he grapples with both human problems like who he’s gonna go to prom with and amazing super-human crises like huge piles of shit left from Rhino’s hay day. Columbia stated that “it’s a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter’s roots.”
Sound’s like Bull Shit to me. The only reason Columbia is doing this is to create a profit on a low budget film that’ll have less of a budget that some Tuesday night ABC “Made of TV” film. Columbia is going to ruin a great franchise, we all know Spider-Man 3′s story sucked, but we were getting somewhere. Don’t get me wrong I love Ultimate Spider-Man comic which focuses on Peter in High School, but Brian Bendis knew what to do and how to retell Spidey’s story and my fear is fans will never see Shocker, Scorpion, or Lizard on the big screen. We’ll be using the same four enemies over again and again.
Columbia Pictures is ruining one of the best Superhero movie franchises out there, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Game Rant — Mod My Controller

Game Rant — Mod My Controller

One of the sweetest part of Modern Warfare 2 is the customizable classes which allow for almost endless combinations of game playable classes.

Today I began playing Army of 2 and found myself fumbling through the control scheme again for another shooter. There are some basic controller setups as with every game….you know, inverted, tactical etc. Instead of just jumping in and playing, I had to learn the control scheme (which was a lot like Gears of War) to even make it through the first level.

My frustration is that the game developers don’t allow me, the user, to change the controller the way I want. It cannot be that hard as it is simply a UI software issue. This is why PC Gaming is so rewarding…because it is very customizable and you can set up your keyboard the way you want. The game becomes personal and you often set up the keyboard and mouse the way you do for every other game. So why is it that I can’t set up my controller the way I want? I call Shenanigans.
